Tourism Promotion Committee

The Tourism Revitalization Committee emerged from the work and specializations of the Tourism Development Department, which was introduced by the Emirate of Asir Region for the first time in the organizational history of the Kingdom in the year 1400 AH. At the beginning of its formation, the committee’s work acquired the image of reduced programs since the summer of 1401 AH.

The committee was then called the Summer Activities Coordination Committee, and over time its programs began to concentrate and intensify, and its activities increased. Then its name changed to the Tourism Revitalization Committee in the year 1404 AH, which is a volunteer committee.

It aims to harness the available energies and capabilities in order to revive and enrich the summer, tourism and winter seasons in the region by improving the tourism, intellectual, cultural and recreational aspects.

This committee is managed by a president and a deputy, who are His Royal Highness the Emir of the Asir Region and His Highness his deputy at the time, and they are assisted in this by an assistant president and his deputy, a rapporteur, and heads of specialized committees nominated by the committee from officials with effectiveness and interest in the developmental, academic, planning, and executive aspects of the region.

Because the committee is concerned with the cultural, intellectual, and literary fields, the fine arts, theatrical and popular arts, sports and media, public relations, tourism services, and financial affairs, specialized committees emerged from it, namely the Public Relations Committee, the Cultural Committee, the Arts Committee, the Media Committee, the Sports Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Tourism Services Committee.

As a culmination of the activities of this committee, His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of the region and Chairman of the Committee since the summer of 1406 AH, allocated an award called the Abha Cultural Award to open the door to competition for creativity in the fields of Scientific research, classical poetry, popular poetry, novels, short stories, plastic and theatrical arts, and because the Tourism Revitalization

Committee does not aim to develop the tourism aspects of the city of Abha and Khamis Mushayat only.

The committee’s vision is not limited to developing these aspects only during the summer season. It has established sub-committees in each of Bishah Al Majardah, Mahayel, Rijal Almaa Dhahran Al Janub, Monday Ballasmar, Al Namas, and Sabt Al-Alayah, which are concerned with raising the level of tourist attraction in Al-Sarat in the summer and in Tihama in the winter.

Although the various activities and events of the tourism activation committees are not based on a budget allocated to any government agency, they have been able, thanks to God.

Then, thanks to the personal initiatives of its members and the efforts of the work team members, a real dimension was crystallized in the development of domestic tourism, through the escalation of tourist flow to the region during the summer seasons and the increase in winter traffic in Tihama.

The role of the committee did not stop at the level of promoting tourism locally, but rather went beyond active participation in meetings and conferences held in the region, as it contributed to organizing and presenting a number of research and working papers that were the focus of prominent discussions and meetings on those occasions and prominent participations outside the region, represented by the National Festival of Heritage and

Culture, which is held annually in Al-Janadriyah in Riyadh and elsewhere.
